REINVENTED – REINVIGORATED – RELOCATED
running with scissors artist studio space has relocated and expanded it's fully equipped artist studios to 54 Cove Street in the mid-Century industrial triangle off Marginal Way, a growing location for the arts in Portland . The Studio's new incarnation includes a revival of it's vibrant and re-known gallery, as well as exciting new affiliations with the Institute for Italian Studies and J.S. Ritter Supply . The six year old artist studio launches it's new gallery with a group show “Articulating Spaces” on First Friday November 7 with a gala reception from 5:00 - 10:00. The evening will include the artists presenting their work in a dynamic Open Studio setting as well. Live music will be performed throughout the evening by Pete Miller , a newcomer to the Portland music scene, who m oved to Portland this past March from Burlington , Vermont . Miller's original music is acoustic based with hints of reggae and the blues. “Articulating Spaces” runs through December 31, 2008. Call 699-4242 for more information.
running with scissors includes 15 artists working in a variety of mediums including; jewelry and metals; printmaking; ceramics; black and white photography; and oil, acrylic, and encaustic painting. Now making it's home with rws is the 4 year old Institute for Italian Studies teaching Italian language, culture, and cooking to adults. running with scissors provides artists with an opportunity to expand their creative expression through exposure to a variety of available equipment as well as exposure to the shared knowledge base of the resident artists. The innovative concept was founded in August 2002 by Susie Schweppe, Joanne Cameron, and Ariette Higgins at the studio's original location at 34 Portland Street . Seeking an expansion of their concept, the founders gravitated to the industrial triangle at the end of Marginal Way , possibly the last vestige of affordable studio space on the Portland peninsula where, indeed, the presence of artists is rapidly growing.
